Dons land Hampshire Cup crown

Hambledon under-15s defeated Andover at the third time of asking to lift the Hampshire Cup.

After the first two dates were washed out, the game was switched indoors at the Rose Bowl.

Playing 16 overs per side, the Dons lost the toss and were asked to bat by their London Road-based rivals.

JJ Brown and Jack Dyer ensured they posted a competitive score, though, each hitting 32, while Hew Richards chipped in with 23.

And after some excellent running from Tim Coleman and Tom Gwyther at the end, the Dons closed on 173 for eight.

In reply, Andover were no match for the Dons bowlers as they tumbled to 82 all out.

Richards (three for 13), Rory Prentice (two for 17) and George Harding (one for seven) were all among the wickets, while James Toogood bowled two superb overs.

Daniel Franks sparked Andover's demise, though, when he took an athletic one-handed catch.

Hambledon now travel to play the winners of the Isle of Wight league, to see who goes through to the last 16 of the national competition.
