Seconds back on track

Hambledon's second string recorded a hard-fought victory over Sarisbury III in Hampshire League division four south on Saturday.

At the small but picturesque Sarisbury Green, the visitors were asked to bat after losing the toss.

They started brightly, though, with 50 on the board after just 10 overs.

However, they soon lost opener Mark Le-Clercq for a quickfire 37 before wickets began to fall at regular intervals.

In the end they were all out for 172 in the 41st over, with skipper Rhidian Chapman and Will Atkinson adding crucial knocks of 23.

The Sarisbury openers started well, too, reaching 50 for two before Chapman took three for 13 off 10 overs to stem the flow.

Mark Le-Clercq took three for 24 as the pair ripped the heart out of the hosts' middle order.

A superb fielding display - and fine work by wicketkeeper Will Bond - was then capped by young guns Hew Richards (two for 28) and Spencer Le-Clercq (two for 23) who mopped up the tail.

Sarisbury were all out for 102, giving Hambledon a fine 70-run victory.
