U15s win, Sherry class

Sunday morning saw the U15s entertain Purbrook at the Ridge. On a very hot and humid day the visitors put the young Dons into bat. Opener Sam Philips came crease looked like he was in a hurry taking 17 off the first over, but his partnership with Jamie Houlberg didn't last long as the Dons soon found themselves 2 down. This brought in the two U13s, Thomas Sherry (34) and Archie Bennet, who played some great shots to see the Dons on 60 for 2 off 8. Archie's dismissal brought Alec Younger to the crease who put on a rapid 28. Unfortunately, the momentum was lost following the departure of Alec and Thomas Sherry, with the innings finishing on 123 for 9, which was slightly below where we might have hoped. Sherry in particular looking in very good form.

The Purbrook innings started brightly with the openers making a good start and keeping up with the run rate. A change of bowling a planned trap by the skipper saw the dangerous Matt McGlinchey caught at cow corner by Alec off Guy Mullins. Four overs latter saw the dismissal of Louis Bartolo by Archie Bennett and yet another critical wicket by Guy of Tom Ellis. The run rate reduced, leaving Purbrook needing 27 off the last 3 overs, which given some tight bowling from the Dons was too much. The visitors finishing on 105 for 6. Guy being the pick of bowlers with 2 for 11 off 4.

It was noticeable that the Under 15s really enjoyed the new play equipment now at the Ridge!
