The 'Rockett' takes 6 to deliver win
The last colts friendly of the season saw a Dons Under 14 team play the Hampshire Hoggetts at the Ridge. Winning the toss and electing to bat, the Dons made a good start with an opening partnership of 65 between Jack Thistlethwayte (31*) and Freddie Martin. Following the fall of Freddie's wicket and Jack's retirement wickets fell at regular intervals, bar some resistance by Will Hardman and Jamie Houlberg, which left the U14's at 139 all out in the 29th over (30 over match).
The Dons score didn't feel enough with the Hoggetts batting line up including Hampshire's Felix Organ, but Finlay Rockett took the wicket of the opening bat, Tom Proctor, bowled middle stump, with the first ball of the innnings. The vistors bating was aggressive and runs were coming easily, but then in 5th over Fin struct again, taking 3 wickets, leaving the Hoggetts at 28 for 4, although Felix remained at the crease. Two more wickets from Fin saw the vistors at 67 for 6 off 10 and Felix Organ retired. A change of bowling brought on Freddie Martin who took 3 wickets in great spell of spin, 106 for 9 in 16 overs for Hoggetts. This saw the return of Felix Organ to the crease and the game for Dons turned into protecting the boundary while trying to get the No.11 on strike. Felix was accuumlting runs quickly, but in 19th went down the track for another attempted 6, and was stumped by Henry Glanfield off Freddie. The Hoggetts 126 all out, with Felix Organ out on 52. An exciting fininsh to a good game.
Forgot to mention the lemon drizzle cake by Jane Martin, one to remember.
