RAM too strong for Hambledon III

Hambledon went down to defeat at the hands of RAM.

It was always going to be a tough game against a very strong batting team who won the league last year.

Dons skipper Martyn Shinn won the toss and decided to bat first on a wicket that usually deteriorates as the game goes on.

Unfortunately after only 29 overs Hambledon were all out for 146, thanks largely to RAM's opening left-arm bowler bowling hooping inswingers that the batsman struggled to cope with.

Dan Franks top scored with 34 and there was also a fine 27 from Ollie Atkinson before he got run out going for a five! Jon Bridgman also hit 19 including a six which bounced off the pub roof.

After six overs of their reply, RAM were on 56 without loss and the Dons were on to their third match ball.

Steve Ripiner (three for 34) eventually removed both openers and then tight bowling from Ed Thistlethwayte (three for 20) and Ollie Atkinson (one for 16) meant Hambledon were always in with a chance of winning but ultimately they fell two wickets short.

Skipper Shinn said: 'It was a gritty performance from the threes and hopefully there are much easier games to follow!'
