Hambledon hit the summit

Hambledon are sitting pretty on top of South East Hampshire Indoor League division one after crushing Fareham & Crofton by 61 runs.

Skipper Rhidian Chapman, pictured, again failed to win the toss and the opposition elected to have a bowl.

But they failed to make best use of the advantage with run-machine James Scutt and Paul Vickers picking up 20 runs from the first over.

Vickers survived an early run out scare before his was dismissed for eight.

Dan Hewitt then returned to form at number three, sharing a steady partnership with Scutt as he cruised to an unbeaten 24.

Scutt, who is still to be dismissed in the competition so far, retired on 27 as he took his overall tally to 177 runs from the six fixtures to date.

James Atkinson then bashed a quickfire 24 - with two sixes and two fours - before he was run out as the Dons posted 135 for three.

The Dons then had the game all but wrapped up inside the first six overs in the field.

A tidy spell of bowling from Hewitt saw him pick up three for 24 before Atkinson picked up one for eight from three overs - narrowly missing out on a wicket maiden.

The Hobbit then produced some Gandalf magic in his final over taking two wickets in two balls to finished the game with two for 14 from 2.2 overs and rise to the top of the team's bowling charts.

Fareham & Crofton were all out for 74, leaving Hambledon triumphant by 61 runs.
