Rising stars shine for Hambledon's third team

Hambledon's third team won their first game of the Hampshire League regional division three south east season thanks to superb performances by George Harding and Jack Dyer.

After winning the toss, skipper Martyn Shinn invited the home team to bat and tidy bowling by Matt Williams and Dyer restricted Purbrook III to 26 without loss off 11 overs.

Purbrook had moved the score on to 47 by the 16th over and Shinn feared the worst.

But then a brilliant catch by Phil Harding off the bowling of his son, George, gave the Dons a much-needed breakthrough.

Two balls - and a hat-trick - later and Hambledon had turned the tables on Purbrook.

A superb spell from Harding Jnr of six for 43 and great support from Wayne Norman (three for 28) saw Purbrook tumble to 104 all out.

Paul Jackson mopped up the tail picking up the last wicket with his first and only delivery

A mature 59 not out from Dyer then saw the third string cruise home in the 24th over to record a seven-wicket victory.

Skipper Shinn said: 'It was a very impressive display by the team. Well done, lads!'
