Hewitt outlines captaincy style

Dan Hewitt believes his calm demeanour will be useful after stepping up to the Hambledon captaincy but insists: I will be leaning on my team-mates for advice.

The long-serving Dons all-rounder was vice-captain last term but assumed command from former captain James Scutt over the winter with the duo switching roles for the new campaign.

Having been at Ridge Meadow from the age of eight, Hewitt knows the history of the club and was more than happy to take the reins when he was asked to lead the club's Southern Electric Premier League division two campaign.

But after 17 years with the club, he is keen to keep everyone involved with an inclusive style of captaincy.

Hewitt said: 'Sometimes you have to follow your gut a bit and make decisions as you go along, depending on situations as you see them.

'But I will also ask advice from other players and get their thoughts. That can only help me.'
