Debut delight for Davidson as seconds win again

Debut-making Mark Davison starred with six wickets as Hambledon II claimed their second consecutive win in Hampshire League division four south on Saturday.

Davison blew the Fareham & Crofton II tail away as Rhidian Chapman's side defended a total of 258 for four to win by 60 runs at Bath Lane.

Every batsman reached double figures as the Dons batted first.

Jamie Lewis (56), Mark Le-Clercq (45), Rhidian Chapman (36) and Owain Chapman (18) all made excellentl contributions.

But it was the unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 73 between young guns Kyle Shinn (57 not out) and Spencer Le-Clercq (22 not out) that capped a superb batting performance for the visitors.

Spirits were soon dampened, though, as the home side reached an ominous 132 without loss in reply.

However, Hambledon's own Jonty Rhodes - Adrian Magrath - then produced a brilliant run out to spark the recovery.

Magrath followed up with two great catches at extra cover to further restrict Fareham, while Spencer Le-Clercq delivered a superb spell of two for 40.

The game was still in the balance, though, when skipper Chapman three Davison the ball. He quickly made his mark and returned figures of six for 28 and dismiss the hosts for 198 in the final over.

The captain said: 'Well done again to Kyle and Jamie Lewis for half centuries. It was a lovely batting display.

'James Restell produced a crucial bowling spell to peg the home side back.

'Spence was mature and clever in his bowling and it was a dream debut for Mark Davison! I'm happy I won the toss!'
