Hambledon youngster hits double century

Promising Hambledon all-rounder Rob Gibson produced a stunning all-round performance, hitting a double century and then taking five wickets in a Hampshire Development XIs victory over Somerset YCs at the Rose Bowl.

Gibson hit an unbeaten 201 before capturing five Somerset wickets at a personal cost of 65 runs in the visitors second innings. South Wilts left-armer James Haggaty took 6-33 as Somerset were whisked out for a meagre 106 in their first innings.

From that point on, Gibson ruled the roost. Rob hit a six and 24 boundaries in a career-best 201. He shared stands of 147 with James Halson (78) and then 188 fror the second wicket with his Portsmouth Grammar School team-mate Jake George (81) before Hampshire declared at 405-2. Gibson then took 5-65 as Somerset were dismissed for 301 in their second innings, leaving Hampshire three runs to win - which they achieved with a boundary off the first ball.
