Double hopes dashed

Hambledon's hopes of a South Hants indoor league and cup double were dashed in the cup semi finals by the talented students from Solent University at Fleming Park, Eastleigh last night.

After losing Chris Stone to the first ball of the match, Jack Lavous (39no) and Nick Scutt (20) helped rebuild the innings to set a reasonable target of 117-4.

But Team Solent, league division one champions and brimful of Southern League Promier One players, showed why they are favourites for double honours themselves.

After surviving an early chance, Solent took advantage of too many wides to pile on the runs and win comfortably in the end in the ninth over by five wickets.

Hambledon's young academy team will now look forward to competing in South Hants indoor division one next winter after winning all eight of their league matches to clinch the division two title.
