Cracking start for Dons' indoor young guns

Hambledon's young guns made a cracking start to life in the South Hants Indoor Cricket League with two victories at Fleming Park Leisure Centre, Eastleigh.

The mainly U17 team, four of whom brought home the Nat West U16 Rose Bowl League title in April, began well in their first taste of adult indoor league cricket against Totton & Eling.

Jack Lavous (25no), Rob Gibson (25no), Chris Stone (23) and Cam Prentice (22no) helped the team reach 136-1 in their twelve overs while even reluctant skipper Phil Tusler staggered his way to 11no.

In reply Totton & Eling lost wickets at regular intervals with four run outs and one wicket each from Rob Gibson and Jack Lavous on their way to being bowled out for 89.

The young Dons faced a stiffer test against Hedge End A who bowled well to restrict Hambledon to just 96-4 in their twelve overs despite 24 from Chris Stone and a patient 23 from Jack Lavous.

At 34-0 in three overs, Hedge End, made up of players from different Hampshire and Southern League clubs, appeared to be coasting to victory.

But the Dons' bowlers discovered another gear as Rob Gibson (2-20), Rob Tusler (2-16) and Jack Lavous (2-6) took six wickets for just 25 runs - assisted by great catches from Cam Prentice, Jack Lavous and stand-in keeper Chris Stone and even an unlikely one-stump run-out from Tusler senior -to skittle Hedge End out for just 59 to win by 37 runs.
