Christopher Bazalgette, 1938-2023

It is with great sadness that we report that Christopher Bazalgette passed away last evening after a long battle with ill health.

The "Gette" was a larger than life character, and it’s believed he had taken more wickets than any other player in local club Cricket history, playing for the Hampshire Hogs, Hambledon CC, Broadhalfpenny Brigands, Bat & Ball CC and many other local teams. He played for Hambledon for over 40 years and has been Vice-Chairman for the last 10 years.

Chris worked for the Cricketer magazine for over 35 years and was a very well known and respected member of the Cricket community, with several books to his name on the subject of cricket.

The funeral is to be held 1pm on Friday 20 January, at St James Church, Southwick PO17 6EA. It is to be a celebration of Christopher's life: bright colours and cricket blazers are wholeheartedly welcomed.

Flowers are welcomed, to be received by 11 am on 20 January at South Downs Funeral Service, 13 The Square, Wickham, Fareham PO17 5JG. Donations if desired to be equally shared between the Hampshire Hogs Cricket Club and Hambledon Cricket Club, via Just Giving (link to follow shortly).
