Four-some Dons crush Portsmouth

Hambledon under-13s claimed their fourth league win with a defeat of Portsmouth.

Asked to bat by Portsmouth, Henry Glanfield and Jamie Gammell put blade to ball and had the young Dons on 51 after just four overs.

The run-rate wasn't maintained but both went on to retire on 30.

Two quick wickets brought Louis Matovu to the crease and he spent no time in blasting 30 - a knock which included seven fours.

Hambledon finished on 146 for three, with good contributions from Archie Philips, Guy Mullins and Thomas Coyle.

The Portsmouth innings didn't start well with the Dons opening bowlers reducing the hosts to 13 for two off five overs.

And then some tight bowling from spinner Freddie Martin meant the innings only reached 28 off 10 overs.

The fall of a couple wickets brought Ajay Patel to the crease. He produced a hard-hitting innings, retiring at 30, but Portsmouth fell well short on 88 for five.

Pick of the Hambledon bowlers was Tom Toogood with two for 6, with other wickets going to Gammell, Matovu and Martin in a game played in good spirit with great hospitality.
