After a disappointing defeat against Fareham in their opening match, the Under 13s bounced back with an excellent win against Waterlooville at Fareham Leisure Centre on Sunday afternoon.
Batting first Hambledon made a modest 102 for 3, with Finlay Rockett making a rapid 21, including a massive 6 and Tom Toogood with 14.
What followed was the best bowling performance seen by a young under 13 team for some time. Bowling only 2 wides the boys bowled out Waterlooville in 11 overs.
Finlay and Will Hardman opened up and restricted the opening batsman well below the run rate. Harry Hoolihan then took the important wicket of Archie Reynolds with the help of a smart catch by Tom at square leg. This was followed by Seb Byers getting a thin edge taken by keeper Sam Phillips. Tom then took a further wicket with a successful run out.
The pressure of the tight bowling really took its toll in the 11th over, when Tom took 2 wickets, one bowled and a catch by Finlay off the wall and then a run out by Seb saw the U13s through to victory.
