Hambledon's U13s have reached the Hampshire final of the County Club Championship, to be played at Hursley Park on Tues 6th July at 6pm. This was achieved by a thrilling semi-final win against Lymington, see match report below:
U13 County Cup Semi-Final: Lymington v Hambledon, 21st June 2010
A gripping match played in fine evening sunshine resulted in a last over win for Hambledon.
Hambledon lost the toss and batted first. Despite the early loss of opener Charlie Boyd, Eddie Lewis (33*) and JJ Brown (30*) made good progress in response to tight Lymington bowling. Further runs were added by Cam Smith (13), Rory Prentice (30*) and 24 by the tail as Hambledon closed on 137 for 6. Lymington bowled well, in particular Felix Ambrose ( 4 overs, 1 for 18) and Oscar Marshall (4 overs, 2 for 26). Their six bowlers impressively only conceded 7 extras in the 20 overs.
Lymington’s batting started well with a fine opening partnership between Felix Ambrose (33*) and J. Quigley (30*) keeping ahead of the required run rate. However, a double wicket maiden by Cam Smith (2 overs, 2 for 7) and two run outs pegged the run rate leaving Lymington needing 28 to win off the last two overs. The penultimate over yielded 16 runs, leaving just 11 to tie off the last. However, fine bowling by Rory Prentice (4 overs for 14 runs) meant Lymington needed a 6 off the last ball to tie, which they failed to get and Hambledon were relieved winners, particularly as they had conceded a generous 30 extras.
A fine match played in a good spirit which was a credit to both teams.
