Hambledon CC Under 11s in Hampshire Cup Final

On Tuesday 14th July Hambledon CC Under 11 team played in the Hampshire Cup Final. To reach the final we had to negotiate a South East Hampshire District play off against fellow league champion contenders Portsmouth and Southsea, which Hambledon won comprehensively by 8 wickets. We then visited Calmore CC the New Forrest District representative and again won easily by 9 wickets. We had a great day in the New Forrest with the hosts creating a true 20/20 atmosphere with the playing of appropriate music accompanying the scoring of 4’s and dismissals.

The final at the Rose Bowl was against St Cross from Winchester. Hambledon batted first making a total of 94 for 5 in the 20 overs, with Ben Wall the skipper, making an excellent 30 retired. The St Cross innings initially struggled with some fiery bowling from Hew Richards, Finlay Rockett and James Toogood. Hambledon had them at 28 for 2 in 8 overs, with Finlay taking a wicket with a superb diving catch by Ben, and Rory Morris taking the 2nd wicket with easier catch by Hew. However, the new St Cross batsmen accelerated the run rate and they went on to win by 8 wickets.

Despite the result the boys had a great experience at the Rose Bowl which they will remember for years to come. It was fantastic to see so much support there, not just mums, dads, brothers, sisters and grandparents, but their school teachers and football managers, plus players and parents from other age groups. The team have had an excellent season and look likely champions of the South East Hampshire Under 11 League.

Many thanks to all those who helped and supported the team this season.
